Drivers face postcode lottery on car repair bills – how does your area rate?

The survey, based on a list of common repairs, found an eye-watering 30% price difference between the cheapest and most expensive areas

Drivers face a postcode lottery when it comes to car repairs - with garages in some parts of the UK charging a third more than other areas.
East Anglia is the most expensive place to get a car repaired with average bills of £241, compared to £180 in Scotland and Northern Ireland, a 30 per cent price difference, the Sunday Peopl e reports.
London is the most expensive city to have a car repaired at £233 while Glasgow and Edinburgh are the cheapest at £166, according to new research.
Experts analysed repair and maintenance figures from 10,000 customers to find the average cost of car repairs in the UK is £220.

They used a list of common repairs including servicing, brake and exhaust replacement.
Regionally, East Anglia was the costliest place for car repairs at £241, followed by the south east at £238 and the south west at £231.

Cheapest by more than £60 was Northern Ireland at £180, Scotland at £186 and the north east at £192.
By city, London was priciest at £233, followed by Leeds at £214 and Birmingham at £213.
Cheapest by £67 was Glasgow and Edinburgh at £166, followed by Manchester £184 and Liverpool at £198.
The research showed it can be cheaper to get your car fixed in the north, while some rural areas can be more expensive than nearby cities.
Alex Rose of car repair website Whocanfixmycar.com, which commissioned the research, said: “Modern cars go on the blink from time to time so our research may help motorists decide where in the country to have their car fixed.”
